At Wiegers Financial & Benefits, one of our core values is Build Community, reflecting our deep commitment to giving back, supporting meaningful causes, and fostering the betterment of the communities where we live, work and play. By embracing this value, we aim to create positive change, build strong relationships, and contribute to the overall well-being of those we serve. Read more as we explain how community involvement and volunteering benefits everyone.

This commitment is more than just words—it’s a driving force behind everything we do. It inspires us not only in our work as financial services professionals but also in our extensive community involvement. While much of our community impact carries the Wiegers Financial & Benefits name, we are equally proud of our team members who passionately dedicate their time and resources to causes close to their hearts.

The Value of Volunteering and Community Involvement: Building Connections and Creating Impact

First, though, why is volunteering important? Volunteering is more than just an act of kindness—it builds connection, fosters empathy, and creates a ripple effect of positive change. Giving back enriches the lives of volunteers and those they serve, boosting happiness and a sense of purpose. For businesses, engaging in volunteer work strengthens connections within the community and enhances relationships with clients and employees.

Care for Kids by Wiegers: Our Commitment to Saskatchewan’s Children and Community

Care for Kids by Wiegers was established as a way to formalize our commitment to giving back. Over the years, we’ve proudly supported Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation and many other local organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children in Saskatchewan. Whether it’s through fundraising events, donations, or hands-on involvement, Care for Kids reflects our deep-rooted belief that every child deserves the opportunity to lead the healthiest and happiest life possible.

Our commitment to volunteerism is deeply woven into our company culture. Beyond Care for Kids, many of our team members personally invest their time in meaningful ways, including:

  • Deb Wiegers was the top celebrity bartender at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatoon Bartender Challenge in 2023. She not only raised an incredible $14,000 to support local mentorship opportunities but she also raised awareness of the critical need for more big brothers and big sisters to help ignite the power and potential of young people in Saskatoon.
  • Colton Wiegers has been a big brother mentor through BBBS for 11 years…and counting. Over the years, he has developed a very close and impactful bond with his little brother who is now a thriving, happy teenager with a bright future. Colton’s dedication to mentoring highlights the power of one-on-one relationships in shaping a young person’s future. Additionally, Colton received the Youth in Philanthropy Award at the 2024 National Philanthropy Luncheon.colton wiegers on stage getting volunteer of the year award

“I’ve been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatoon and Area Inc. for a long time and I am a huge believer in what they do! I grew up in a house with 4 kids so the idea of needing a brother or sister (although it would’ve been nice for one more boy…) is something I didn’t grow up wondering. Anyone can join the program and change a kids life”. – Colton Wiegers, CEO

  • Cliff Wiegers is a proud Edwards School of Business alumni and member of the Edwards Dean’s Circle and actively contributes to events that benefits soon to be members of the business community
  • Michael Carss, a valued member of the Wiegers Financial & Benefits team, has been recognized as Volunteer of the Year at the 2024 CPBI Conference. As a not-for-profit organization, CPBI Saskatchewan relies heavily on volunteers who generously donate their time, knowledge, and expertise. Michael joined the CPBI Council in 2022, and his impact has been remarkable!  In 2023, 2024 and upcoming in 2025, he co-chaired the CPBI Saskatchewan Conference, while also making significant contributions to the Council and Marketing Committee.  Being named Volunteer of the Year after just two years underscores his value to CPBI Saskatchewan.  We eagerly anticipate the amazing contributions he’ll continue to make in the future!

“Volunteers are the heart of CPBI Saskatchewan!  I’m fortunate to dedicate my time and expertise to advancing the pension and benefits industry in Saskatchewan and beyond.”- Michael Carss, Director of Innovation and Growth

The Impact of Giving Back to the Community

Volunteering and community involvement seems almost contagious because when you give back, you often inspire others to do the same. This ripple effect creates a culture of kindness, generosity, and civic responsibility that spreads throughout the community. At Wiegers Financial & Benefits, we strive to lead by example, encouraging our employees, clients, and business partners to join us in making a positive difference.

We believe that when we give, we not only help others but also inspire a cycle of generosity that strengthens the fabric of our communities. Over the years, we’ve witnessed how a single act of giving can spark a chain reaction with benefits that extend far beyond the initial contribution.

Personal Fulfillment and Growth

Giving back to the community also fosters personal growth. Volunteering allows us to step outside daily routines, try new experiences, and meet new people. It challenges us to develop new skills, gain fresh perspectives, and find joy in giving. Many of us at Wiegers Financial & Benefits find that through our volunteer work, we gain a sense of fulfillment and purpose that enriches our personal and professional lives.
