Founded in 1992 by Cliff and Debra Wiegers, Wiegers Financial and Benefits is more than just a company—it’s a family. The Wiegers family has been actively involved in the business since the beginning. Did you know every one of Cliff and Deb’s children has had a hand in the family business in some shape or form over the many years? Some more than others, but it goes to show the roots of Wiegers.

Colton Wiegers proudly serves as a board member for the Family Business Association Saskatoon (FBAS), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the well-being, understanding, and success of families in business.
“If you’re part of a family business you fundamentally understand why it’s different than any other career. I grew up hearing about business at the dinner table at a very young age and with both parents working together it was an even bigger part of our lives. One of the core things that you pick up on early is the entrepreneurial spirit in my opinion. It showed itself in little side businesses like selling pop and cookies at the family garage sale or later on going door to door selling curb ramps. That’s experience that compounds when you grow up in a business family and I’ve valued so much in my professional growth from those building blocks. Fast forward to where I am now, being integrated and leading a family business takes a lot more than some cookies and a scrappy attitude. There are so many complexities to it in terms of leadership, succession, family dynamics, doing what’s fair and equal for everyone in the family, doing what’s fair for your non-family team. The list goes on forever. I’ve learned a lot on the job but I have gotten an immeasurable amount of value from my involvement with FBAS- Family Business Association Saskatoon. Between the events focused on family business specific issues to the peer groups (PACs) where you can share openly with other owners, there is a bit for everyone in terms of helping you where you are at on your business journey.
